daily life
Currently there are 29-34 dogs that live full time at the sanctuary. Our day typically starts pretty early, sometimes as early as 5AM. All the dogs get outside, go potty, stretch, get a drink and enjoy the morning. Let's be honest, then it's typically time to go back to bed for a bit. Soon after, it's time for a round of morning medicine. I call this time "treat time." I think the dogs have caught on that they aren't treats, but we do what we can. Its funny how easy some of them take their 'treats' and how sneaky some of them are to only eat the pill pocket, cheese, peanut butter, hot dog, etc. and spit their 'treat' out later.
From that point on, the dogs are free to roam around, nap and just be dogs. We make sure there is plenty of time for loving on our dogs, brushing, grooming and more.
After that, it's dinner time. Feeding this many dogs is not as bad as you would think. We separate the dogs into groups and kennels (this is the only need for our kennels) and always watch to make sure no one is stealing anyone else's food.
The rest of the day, the dogs are again free to be dogs and that's the way we like it. When the sun starts to set, we bring everyone in for the night. It's hilarious watching all the dogs settle into their spots. They all have a favorite place.
