our mission
Our mission is simple. We want to save as many senior dogs as we can from passing in shelters and provide those seniors with the best life we can. All of us at Promise 4 Paws have a love for dogs of all ages, but
found our greatest passion to be senior dogs. Our community is very lucky to have several
local dog rescues and multiple humane societies, however, we feel there has always
been a shortcoming when it comes to older dogs.
Our goal has always been, and continues to be, to bridge that gap.
wondering why older dogs?
In our opinion, senior dogs are the best dogs. Yes, they can be a bit more expensive with all the medication, vet visits, etc. and yes, it's hard to swallow that you are bringing a dog home knowing the inevitable will happen sooner than later, but these aren't things we think about. We think about the time they have left. How can we show them love? Prove we won't abandon them? Let them know they can trust us and never have to experience a new home again? There is nothing more heart breaking for us than going to a shelter and seeing a senior dog in a kennel that doesn't know what love is, or even worse, knows what love was and then all of the sudden their family was gone.
Our history
Can you believe Promise 4 Paws is six years old?! It all started in 2010 at a dog walking club meeting. At that time, all of us were devoted volunteers at the Council Bluffs Animal Shelter. We started talking about our individual experiences with the dogs and realized we all had a passion to do more. At that time, each of us were 'rescuing' dogs ourselves by adopting the dogs that no one else wanted. Turns out, that's really difficult to sustain. It was like a light bulb went off when looked at each other and imagined what we could do if we worked together. Five years later, we have had over 300 dogs brought into Promise 4 Paws, with the majority of them being over the age of ten. Meet our founders..
